Worship: The First Step to Christian Maturity

Set near the beginning of Book 4 of the Psalter, this Psalm teaches that the people of God in exile grow in their ability to celebrate His status as King through their corporate worship. We conclude that maturation, meaning the ability to rejoice in exile, comes through worship. Our psalm this morning highlights the fact that maturation comes specifically through Sabbath worship. To understand this truth, we look at the Sabbath's origins at creation, its character as a Holy day (profane it by work at your own risk!), its purpose of spiritual refreshment through worship, its change to the First day of the week in the New Covenant era, and its challenge to us. Do you trust God enough to take this day as a day to grow in maturation through worship?
