Don't Worry - Be Happy

396

Though the message is named after a secular pop-song, the phrase is not only Biblical but is an appropriate summary of one of the greatest of David's psalms, Psalm 37. In a day like ours when it appears that the schemes of the wicked have succeeded in leading the world to the brink of global financial melt-down, planet earth is in upheaval, calamitous earth-changing events are on the rise, and even secular humanists and pagans are contemplating doomsday scenarios and the end of the world as we know it, the Bible's message to God's people is clear: God's people are to trust Him - and are NOT to be living in fear of these things.

Psalm 37 is a psalm of both Do's and Don'ts. God's people should never worry about their provisions or their prosperity, their failed plans or their problems, the schemes or perceived prosperity of the wicked, or even of global and cosmic prophetic events that are unfolding on the world scene. There are however some things this psalm says a child of God SHOULD worry about, including trusting in, delighting himself in, and committing his way unto the Lord. Further we are to rest in the Lord, wait patiently on the Lord's timing, and rather than fearing what the evil of this world plot against us, we must concern ourselves with departing from evil and remembering God's formula for success, found at Joshua 1:8 and restated at Psalm 1:1.
