Soteriology Part 4

60

I CONVERSION: FAITH & REPENTANCE

  1. Coversion follows regeneration and effectual calling
  2. Conversion involves two elements: faith and repentance and they both come together - they are simultaneous.
  3. Man uses his/her own will to repent and believe. Faith and repentance are a gift of God, but man repents (not God).
  4. The consequence of conversion is salvation - the removal of a state of condemnation before God, and of coming to reconcilitaion with Him.

II ELEMENTS OF TRUE FAITH

  1. Knowledge of the Contents of the Gospel. Sin, guilt, Christ's mission, incarnation, death and resurrection.
  2. Knowledge must be accompanied by consent. Information without agreement and acceptance is just information.
  3. Knowledge and consent must be followed by trust. This is the meaning of “receiving” and believing in His Name.

True faith and repentance is complete trust in Christ in what He accomplished and leaning (i.e. resting) in Him for life.
