The Final Judgment
The Final Plague
- Death of the firstborn-the final plague was threatened
Judgment builds with each plague and climaxes with this plague
This plague is the final and full expression of the wrath of God
Judgment is unavoidable it was going to happen
Judgment is universal it was going to come to every household
- Demonstration of God's faithfulness
Ancient promise Genesis 15:12-14 predicted
Slave people will come out of Egypt with great possessions
God was preparing His people with what they needed to build the tabernacle in the wilderness
Lesson to learn - What God gives you He is probably preparing you to be able to give to others
- Distinction of God's people
This was to be the night of nights, the night of great death, the night of great wailing
God made a difference between His people and the Egyptians
Lesson to learn - God is watching over and protecting us (His people)
- Declaration of God's name
Pharaoh would not listen so God's wonders might be known
God's wonders declare the name of God
- Dilemma -all the first born of Egypt were under the same death sentence
How can God pour out His holy, just wrath, then spare the Jews and still be holy and just?
How can God spare the Jews who believed and obeyed? Through the substitutionary atonement of the blood of the lamb.
Salvation is through the death of a substitutionary atonement so the guilty may go free.
