The Biblical Basis of Baptism
Series Baptism
The message today is entitled The Biblical Basis of Baptism, and is the second piece of a 4-part series on Biblical Baptism. Our contention is that baptism is inseparably connected to essential gospel truth.
A person has been biblically baptized only if they affirm these essential gospel principles in their baptism. On the other hand, if a person was converted and was therefore affirming the essentials of Christianity when they were baptized, then we do not require any greater knowledge, or more maturity in the faith, than this in order to consider their baptism biblically valid.
Baptism implies vital gospel truths affirmed or at least not denied. The gospel understanding of a baptismal candidate does not need to equal a fine-tuned systematic theology or an entire historic confession of faith. Rather, a person need only receive those truths most surely believed by all true Christians throughout the ages.
