True Worshipers

Psalms of lament are occasioned by a number of things: an injustice that has been perpetrated, a false accusation, the threat of an enemy, or a national calamity. Psalms 42 & 43, taken together, is a psalm that laments the loss of worship. Jerusalem and the joyous festivals are longed for, for this was where God communed with his people. With the coming of the Messiah, however, a turn is taken away from location to connection, resulting in worship not tied to a place but a people, those who worship in spirit and truth.
