I.Tearing Down the Idols of the Heart

When most people think of idolatry, they think of worshipping a pagan god represented by a statue or constructed image of some sort. That is not how God views or defines idolatry. Therefore, as believers, neither should we reduce idolatry to the worlds view or definition. God views idolatry as anything anyone prioritizes in his life that conflict with God's commandments, anything that interferes with pure worship of God, or anything that anyone gives a higher priority in life than he gives to a righteous relationship with God. Mammonism (Materialism) is given as an example to which the warning regarding idolatry should be applied in a universal way to hundreds of other issues of life.
