SUMMARY: Hosea chapter 3 illustrates God's covenant patience and long suffering towards Israel as a way of illustrating His love for His elect; as well as the children of Israel according to the flesh who will one day be called according to grace. Not all Israel are true Israel but by God's Grace, many are.

I: NUANCED TYPOLOGY.
Types represent themselves first as they relate to the Old Covenant as a Covenant of Works, and second as they relate to the New Covenant as a Covenant of Grace. (Examples are Adam and Circumcision)

II: LAW/GOSPEL DISTINCTION.
A: Dogmatically- The law and the gospel are opposed to one another.
B: Historically- Both the law and the gospel coexist in all ages of history.
C: Covenantally- A given covenant must either Law or Gospel, not a mixture.
