Jesus Institutes the Lord's Supper
Series Matthew's Gospel
26
Christ has given ordinances to His church: baptism and the Lord's Supper. In our text we read of the inauguration of the second of these two sacraments. Much like the showbread of the Old Testament, the elements of the Lord's Supper are consecrated from common use, and are not available for everyone to partake. The Lord's Table is a means of grace that guards the purity and unity of Christ's church. Let us learn together how to partake of it in a worthy manner.
