Seeing Women and Church through the Gospel

Consider the struggle with viewing women in both society and church today.

1. Universal application of women's role in marriage

• Ephesian 5:22-33 God asks women to submit to their husbands.
• This sin't an universal law on men's relationship to women.
• Does not say that women need to submit yourself under men.
• Does not grant men permission to boss and order women around
• Women and Men are unique and equal
• Eph 5:32 - it is the Gospel - Christ is the example of submission for all of us
• It is sinful for men to force women to conform + abuse of leadership

2. Universal application of women's restriction to hold church office

• Women have a role in the church
• Women are not to hold the 2 specific offices in the church - Pastor & Deacon
• God uses this 2 posts in a particular way to govern and shepherd the church.

3. Genesis 3:16-17 - 6K years of cultural opinion surrounding women

• Women abusing women - judging one another
• Men abusing women - objectifying of women
• it is a heart problem for all - the struggle with depravity
• Women are priests of the Lord! Royal priesthood applies to all.

4. Women to adorn themselves with Christ Love - v9-10

• Dress yourselves with good works and godliness
• Check your hearts and do not sin - your sin is not someone else's fault

5. The verses on 1 Tim 2:9-15 are not universal statements on women

• Does not restrict them from serving except from the roles of Pastor and Deacon.
• Luke 2:36-38
• Acts 21:8-9
• Joel 2:28-29

Women have a ministry in the church and in God's design.
