Longing for Death but Not Suicidal
Series Job
This message is taken from Job chapter 3 in which a very mature believer longs for death in the midst of a God-designed trial. By God's own testimony Job is an extraordinary spiritual person. And yet Job really does hate the day he was born, he really wishes he had died already, and still wishes he could die very soon. But Job never broaches the subject of suicide. possibly you are aware that about 80 people per day commit suicide in the United States. This is also the case daily in Japan and Russia. The overwhelming majority of these are not regenerate persons, but it is undoubtedly true that some true people of God have taken their own lives. This is a great evil to be resisted. "Your life belongs to God, spirit and body along with the breath that sustains it, whether you are a believer (1 Corinthians 6:19,20) or an unbeliever (Daniel 5:23)," states Layton Talbert.
