The Crown Of Calvary

636

Many Christian hymns and songs make reference to the crown of thorns the Bible depicts as forced upon our Lord prior to His crucifixion.

One stanza in that beautiful hymn, ‘When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,’ says:

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did ‘ere such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

This crown of thorns reminds us of:

[1] THE CRUELTY OF THE CROSS;

[2] THE NECESSITY OF THE CROSS;

[3] THE ROYALTY OF THE CROSS.

It is comforting to know that thorny crown has been replaced:

The head that once was crowned with thorns
Is crowned with glory now;
A royal diadem adorns,
The mighty Victor’s brow!
