The Absurd Plan to Kill Christ

It is astounding to consider the absurdity of the wicked rulers of Israel planning to kill Messiah after He had shown He had the power to raise dead men from the grave. How did they think it was possible to kill such a person?

How can you snuff out the life of a man who has the power to give life to the dead?

Their hubris and foolishness just shows the horrible corruption of the mind and heart that sin brings to us all.

It appears, however, that they thought God would forsake the Savior once they held their show trial and condemned Him to die. How sad that so many of us today put such stock in the legal pronouncements of men, as if they can control God or make what is wrong seem right.

They mocked Him as He hung in agony and shame, that He trusted in God, so let God deliver Him if God would have Him. They were convinced that God had forsaken Him for His supposed sin.

Isaiah had foretold this very attitude - that men would assume that God was pouring out wrath against Jesus for His own crimes, but they would be wrong.

Peter pointed out at Pentecost that it was impossible for death to hold Jesus, because of God's promise to Messiah, through the Psalmist, that He would not be permitted by God to see corruption or be left in the grave!

God's promise to Messiah could not be broken.

The mistake wicked men made at the time was to assume that Christ would not die if God loved Him, and that the Lord Jesus was suffering for His own sin.

They failed to recall that God had promised to judge Messiah for the sins of His people, in order to redeem them. The Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all!

God used men's vain plans against Jesus to save His people!
