Building A Happy Home Part 1

307

Just as every earthly parent wants his children to be happy, the Bible is clear that our Father in heaven also wants His children to be happy. The Lord Jesus began His great sermon on the mount in Matthew 5 with a prescription for happiness as contained in the beatitudes, and also began the song-book of Israel, the Psalms, with a prescription for happiness in Psalm 1. To be happy we must reject the ungodly counsel of this world, saturate ourselves with the Word of God, and commit ourselves to obedience. As the hymn says, "Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus..."

Nowhere is it more true than in the home, that if we want to be happy we must reject what the world says and obey God's word. Part 1 in this series deals with the application of Psalm 1 to this subject and with the Father's role in building a happy home. The first ingredient in building a happy home is a happy marriage, and the primary ingredient in a happy marriage is a loyal husband who sacrificially loves his wife as Christ loved the church. To do this a godly husband must bring five primary things to the marriage: (1) Maturity; (2) Humility; (3) Temperance and Self-Control; (4) Communication; and (5) Intercessory Prayer. Because God has in His perfect plan decreed that the husband is the head of the wife, God therefore holds the man primarily responsible for the marriage relationship.
