Considering the fact that the Apostle Peter was writing to God’s people who were scattered throughout the ancient Roman world due to severe persecution for their faith and were suffering greatly for the cause of Christ, how could he possibly begin his Epistle to these sorely suffering saints by saying, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!” And how can God’s Word come to us today saying precisely that very same thing considering all of the trials and troubles, sorrows and suffering, problems, pressures and pains which we, too, experience today as God’s people? Well, the answer is found in the remainder of our text as recorded for us in I Peter 1:3-5 where we gladly discover three very comforting characteristics of A LIVING HOPE!
