Faith WEEPS At The Cross

In previous sermons in this series, we have considered how:

  1. Faith WAITS At The Cross;
  2. Faith WONDERS At The Cross.

This time our subject is:

  1. Faith WEEPS At The Cross.

Faith weeps due to a sight of:

  1. PERSECUTED INNOCENCE;

The little group of loyal disciples who stood round Christ's cross were forced to listen to repeated attacks on the Person and Work of their Lord (cf. Matthew 27:39-44).

Attacks were directed then (as they are now) against Christ's:

a) Virgin Birth
b) Virtuous Behaviour
c) Vicarious Blood

(Assaults on the person and work of Christ by Bishops James A. Pike and David Jenkins, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mary Baker Eddy and Steve Chalke are examined under this heading).

  1. PERPLEXING INJUSTICE;

... though Jesus was uniquely man's Healer, Helper and Friend, man reviled and crucified Him!

  1. PERSONAL INIQUITY.

Our sins have individually implicated us in the crucifixion of Heaven's Son ...

Thus might I hide my blushing face
While His dear cross appears;
Dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
And melt my eyes to tears.
