Food and Drink Indeed - Preparatory Sermon

This sermon serves to prepare the listener for the upcoming sacrament of the Lord's Table to be held in a week’s time.

The flesh and blood of Jesus Christ are true food and true drink. Whoever feeds on the Lord will live by the Lord. It was not Jesus' intention to simply feed the bellies of the people, but to offer Himself as the sustenance for their souls. This teaching was hard to accept by the Jews and the Lord's own followers. People were outraged by the physical imagery of these words, but people were equally offended at the notion of examining their own lives in light of God's righteous demands. Those who have been redeemed enjoy the Lord Jesus Christ they feed upon him in delight and hunger and thirst for more righteousness. This feasting brings assurance of a lasting abundant life.
