Two Kingdoms

46

Augustine's "City of God" speaks of two cities. The earthly city is concerned with itself and hates God, while the heavenly city serves the Lord and seeks make his glory known. In this passage, we see Jonathan caught between his father and his best friend. His loyalty was tested, and yet remained with his best friend. The reason for this is that he was looking to the city of God, not the earthly city. We too must choose between loving this world or the Lord. Only eyes of faith can see the true king and the eternal kingdom. Where do your loyalties lie?
