WORLD OF OLD TESTAMENT

• Society not mobile/global
• Men followed into family trade
• Elite classes had tutors
• Greeks/Romans higher education, special training
• Jews had post-exilic synagogue training

WORLD OF NEW TESTAMENT

• Romans taught reading/writing, poetry, public
  speaking and philosophy
• No formal state schools
• Home education - family trade, morals, religion
• Higher training for elite

• assumes home to teach morals and religion
• does NOT address higher education
• Paul trained as Pharisee and Roman

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

• Priorities for your children:
  • Should be higher than worlds standards
  • Take into account creation mandate
  • Not all parents can provide special education
• Public school risks
  • secular, worldly influences
• Private school risks
  • "class thinking", negligence
• Home School risks
  • informational and/or associational
