God's Pledge of Peace

The origin of the rainbow was linked to the guarantee of the covenant that God made with Noah never to destroy the whole world again by water. That covenant was a facet of the everlasting covenant to which the Lord referred, a covenant that is echoed in other places in Scripture, notably Hebrews 13:20 where it is linked to the blood of Christ. This pledge of peace, then, is a symbol of God's faithfulness and of the ultimate glory that awaits all of the people of God.
