I. Fasting from the Heart

The Word of God has a great to say about fasting. Yet, there is very little teaching on the biblical doctrine of fasting in our times. This is because many people see fasting as merely an extension of the feast days and fast days of the Mosaic Covenant (the Law). The Jews observed a number of fasting days. The Jews observed fasting days during times of both personal and national mourning and times of genuine repentance for grieving God with their sins. Fasting in all cases signified humbling of one's self before the Lord for numerous reasons.
