The Cherubim and Seraphim

The Bible is silent about the original creations of angelic beings and does not indicate the time of their creation. However, with what the Bible does reveal (as developed in a previous section), it is clear that they are created beings. As already established, angelic beings are not eternal beings, it is impossible or them to be self-created, just as it is impossible that “chance” created them. God created them! Further, we can surmise that God created them before He created the physical universe. Apparently these beings were present when God created the physical universe, and they rejoiced in the awesome display of power that they witnessed, and gave praise and worship to the Creator. As we proceed with this study, the only authoritative source that we will turn to is the written revelation of God in the Holy Scriptures. This session explores what the Bible reveals of the Cherubim and Seraphim, classifications of angelic beings who appear much less frequently in the Bible than do the angels. What the Scriptures reveal about these beings, their descriptions, their activities and their roles will be explored, as well as common misconceptions in the culture as to who and what they are.
