The Saviour's Cry
28
Familiarity breeds thoughtlessness. We are so familiar with the account of Christ's sufferings that we fail to be stunned by its great and awesome import. Let us think seriously about these words of Christ, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
- The surprising cry.
- The sin-bearer's cry.
- The substitute's cry.
- The Saviour's cry.
This cry was integral to the Messiah's role in fulfilling prophecy, in bearing away the sin of his people, in the whole work of salvation. It is therefore a cry wherein we find the hope and good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the only Saviour of mankind.
