Good and Faithful Servants

Some Christians are satisfied with just knowing they are saved and on their way to heaven, and do nothing to actually serve the Lord or make themselves useful to His purposes. Some of these are described by the Apostle Paul as being “saved, yet so as by fire” - i.e., “by the skin of their teeth” as Job says – who may well need to examine themselves to see if they are truly in the faith (2 Cor. 13:5). The Lord Jesus made it clear in Matthew 25 and elsewhere that His people WILL be judged - and REWARDED - based on their service, usefulness, and profitability to Him; and also laid out a rather dismal future for that “wicked and slothful servant” who did nothing with what his Lord gave him.

God has chosen in His infinite wisdom to do His work in this world through His people. This message looks at several examples of the kind of people God chooses to use, which are characterized by being (1) common, ordinary people, whom the world may see as being unusable; (2) people that have faith to believe God; (3) people that have the courage to trust God, to do right and obey Him in spite of their fears; and (4) people who are cleansed and separated from iniquity and unto Him. These are they who will one day hear those prized and cherished words of the Lord Jesus, “well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
