The Hope of Israel

70

Aim: To be genuinely hopeful in Christ, even while enduring hardships.

Doctrine: Hope is absolutely necessary in a fallen world. It is reserved only for the true Israel of God, and it only makes sense in the midst of trials.

Exegesis: How Jesus is the Hope of Israel: through His present incarnation (vv. 11-13); through His shared resurrection (vv. 14-16); through His mercy in judgment (vv. 17-18).

Further application: How to benefit from divine hope: by getting an eternal perspective, and by being willing to suffer in order to be delivered.

Key verses: vv. 12-13a ''A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who forsake You shall be ashamed.''
