True Comfort - 1

By nature, we desire many comforts, but Lord's Day 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism speaks of only one comfort. This comfort involves being delivered from ourselves and being possessed by the redeeming Savior, being governed by the preserving Father, and assured by the compelling Spirit. This is true comfort. The weighty afflictions we experience are light in consideration of the blessings derived from them, when we belong to Christ.
