Introduction: The Oxford Concise Dictionary defines a Champion as:
- A person who has surpassed all rivals in a sporting contest or other competition.
- A defender of a cause or person.
- So that historically, a knight might finish in single combat on behalf of the monarch.
Outline:
- The giant Goliath was a conceited champion, who looked to and trusted on himself.
- King Saul was a cowardly champion, who looked at and focused on his enemy.
- David, a shepherd boy, was a courageous champion, who looked to and trusted in his God.
Conclusion: Christ is our champion who on the cross defeated sin and death and has given us His Spirit to strengthen us in all of our spiritual battles!
