Motivations for Holy Living

The love of God for the people to whom this letter is addressed is manifested in the orchestration of trials of persecution which had come their way. But instead of being discouraged, they should be encouraged, realizing that God loves them enough to discipline them. With this in mind they should continue their Christian pilgrimage and their lives should be marked by several virtues spelled out in this passage. What God has done and is doing should strengthen their resolve to be holy people.
