Look Into Your Own Casket

Suppose you approached a coffin. The lid is closed. Reaching the casket, you open the top and you look inside. Imagine the shock if you saw that it was you lying inside. This is what God wants you to see when you consider yourself spiritually.

I don't know when the first time was that you saw a dead person. From that body, life has departed. The person has ceased to function. Paul compares your state to that of a dead person.

In your unregenerate state, there is not a drop of life in you. You are not basically capable of good. You are incapable of knowing or loving God. Rather, you reject God, and any knowledge of God. You don't understand or enjoy the things God does. You are not even able to detect your dead condition. You are unable to honour God with your life.

It may be, that the reason you don't appreciate the shocking greatness of God's salvation is because you don't understand the gravity of your own spiritual death. Take a look through the eyes of Scripture, into your own casket.
