Title: Discipline For Trials

1 Peter 1:13

Without Godly discipline and trials will leave us in ruin not resting in the gospel or cause us to respond in a way that doesn't bring glory and honor to God.

We need Bible Discipline and thinking in our lives. So what are these disciplines that we need?

  1. First we need to secure our minds. verse 13 "prepare your minds for action"

a. If you do not tighten the way you think then during the tests and trials this will cause you to stumble and fall. Romans 8:6-7, 12:2

b. God's word deals with our thought life. How should we think? The answer is Gospelly. Galatians 2:20-21

c. Secure your mind. Think Biblically. Consider Christ. Think about that inheritance that awaits in heaven.

d. Consider Paul's struggle with remaining sin in Romans 7. Romans 7:14-15, 18-19, 22-24, 25-8:2

  1. Secondly the text tells us we need to Be Sober in Spirit.

a. When we as Christians are not sober in spirit we sometimes gravitate to extremes.

b. We need to develop our sobriety by being in God's Word and controlled by His Spirit.

  1. Thirdly the text tells us to have a steadfast hope

a. The text says "fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ"

b. Have you set your hope completely on the Lord Jesus Christ?

c. Whatever is happening in our lives we need to fix our faith, hope and love on Christ. Romans 5:1-5, Galatians 5:5-6, 1 Corinthians 13:12-13, Hebrews 11:1, Matthew 6:19-21, 6:33

We need to have a reverence and awe of God as we go through this life for the grace and glory of God.
Place your hope completely on Jesus!
