The Chosen Servant

In Matthew 12, Jesus gave those He healed an unexpected command: to not make Him known. The Scripture then gives the reason for this, from a prophecy of Isaiah. This prophecy from Isaiah 42:1-3 is one of many messianic prophecies meant to show the characteristics of the One to come. The people had different expectations for the Messiah, but they should have understood the previous prophecies that showed His character and His works. Isaiah showed that one of the marks of the Messiah was that He would be a servant.
