Substitutionary atonement is writ large over all of the book of Leviticus, but is in no place more evident than in the burnt offering. Here we see the worshiper coming by faith to present to God the very best of what he has.

Why is this done? Did the worshiper decide to try to bribe God with an animal sacrifice - as if God would overlook his sin and accept the blood of a substitute? No - this is God's idea, and the faithful Israelite is saved not by work, but by faith.

Consider the blazing shadows of the Burnt Offering and the glorious picture it shows us of Christ!
