The False Refuge of Formal Religion

Israel was destroyed in 70 AD, just as Christ had warned that it would be. The lesson for us is that God will not be mocked and He will carry out His threats. The application for the American church, indeed all churches, should be obvious. We cannot trust in our nice church buildings any more than Israel could trust in the Temple. We in America cannot trust in our wonderful beginning and our founding fathers and our Constitution and our glorious past, any more than Israel could. The external form of religion will not save us. The only thing that will avert God's judgment is repentance.
