The Marriage Covenant Part Four: The Husbands Lead & Wives Submit

87

The Marriage Covenant is made with God and therefore held to the standards of God. Despite conventional wisdom which allows either the church or the couple to write the vows to which they feel they should be held God has already written His standards and it is to these not to man which He holds the couple accountable. It is imperative therefore tor the couple to discover as quickly as possible those vows to which they are held personally accountable by God.
In this first lecture the first two of ten vows is expounded. God has accepted from the Husband that he will be the spiritual leader of the family. He does not accept from the husband that he will give the wife free rein in leading the family, nor does He accept from the husband that the husband will make sure it gets done, rather God holds the husband personally responsible for the Spiritual Leadership of the wife and children. As for the wife God accepts her vow to submit to the husband's spiritual leadership. She does not do this on the basis of her husband's worthiness in her sight but rather on the basis of her husband's worthiness in God's sight. The wife need not have taken this vow but having taken it she must fulfill it. This vow is taken by the wife as given by God. To marry is to take this vow whether spoken or not, whether realized or not.
