"Remembering the 60s"
A word of testimony
Please read the story of God's reviving of Israel in 2 Chronicles 29.
I consider myself a very privileged person indeed!
First of all, God in His infinite mercy reached down and saved me, a most undeserving sinner who, at the time of my conversion, was bent only on sin and defiance of all that was holy and good.
Secondly, I was led immediately into fellowship with a people amongst whom God was working. I refer to the Free Presbyterian Church and particularly Ravenhill congregation where Dr. Ian Paisley was minister.
Thirdly, my conversion took place at a time just prior to a real and true moving of the Spirit of God in revival power. I was saved on 5th April 1964. In August-September of that year a mission was held by Dr. Paisley at a place called Laghey, just outside Dungannon. Over 100 souls professed salvation. Three years later that harvest was gathered into the newly formed Dungannon FPC.
A close friend of mine professed faith 3 days before me. It was in his house I was saved. He was not keen on the FPC & Dr Paisley in particular. He favoured Berry St Presbyterian church where a well-known evangelical, Rev Glynn Owen, was minister. Within days I knew that the place for me was outside the ecumenical camp and that meant avoiding Berry St or any other church within the main denominations, irrespective of the reputation of the minister.
For that guidance I will always thank the Lord for His great mercy.
