Perception of the Divine Being

Moses is not content even with the comforting presence of God granted in response to his first petition. He desired a deeper knowledge of God--the discovery of God's glory. In this hunger for a full knowledge of God, Moses is our example. In response to his prayer, "Show me thy glory", God reveals himself 1) In an inward way revealing more to Moses about the meaning of his personal name, "The Lord"; and 2) In a more external way by way of a vision which affected his senses. The sermon encourages believers to pursue a full, penetrating knowledge of God (Col. 1:9) and provides directions for obatining such in this life. However, fixed views of the divine majesty are reserved for death and the intermediate state.
