God is Awake and Watching

Jeremiah is given to visions to confirm his calling and message to the people of Israel. The first is the early bloom of the Almond tree, which is called the awake tree because it is the first to bloom in early January. God was awake and ready for his prophet to give ithe message the second aspect to this vision was that the branch or rod of the Almond would come to life because God was Watching. The eyes of the Lord are sharp and not dimmed. God was watching to bring his prophet on the scene at just the right moment as his message would work to bring about the armies from the north.
