But God...

17

Dr. James Montgomery Boice:
“Few people in history have suffered as intensely and unjustly as Joseph.”

Joseph and his coat of many colors,
sold into slavery - unjustly charged - thrown into prison
only to rise to the second highest office in the land of Egypt.
Second only to Pharoah - his prime minister.
-due to his integrity and faithfulness, according to the Lord’s timing.

Joseph reassurance to his brothers: “You intended it for evil, but God intended it for good...’
Genesis 50:20
stands as a commentary not only on the highs and lows in Genesis,
But for the whole of Scripture and the whole of your life under the providence of God.
As Paul assures us in Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all thing God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

John Calvin puts it in perspective when he states:
“Whatever poison Satan produces, God turns it into medicine for his elect.”
In other words: “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”
We can react in fear like Joseph’s brothers, or
we can respond with forgiveness and faith like Joseph.

It all becomes clear at the cross. Nothing, not even the death of God’s own Son, happens apart from God’s own sovereign will and control.
