What Jesus Says About His Return, Pt. 2

116

Preoccupation with eschatology or the end times can be dangerous to your soul. I came to this simple conclusion about all the major Christian perspectives on the end times. It came to these TWO points!
ONE: Every Christian believes Christ will return and every Christian believes there will be a judgment day and the end of this world (judgment unto hell) as we know it and that there will be an everlasting kingdom in which Christ will reign with His people forever and ever! Return, Judgment, and Everlasting Kingdom and Everlasting Hell. THAT IS NEVER UNDER dispute among true believers! In fact, our WCF focuses only on those things
TWO: The big debate has to do with two things, 1007 years and Israel!

  1. Verses 15-21 answer the disciples' first question, "When will these things be" — that is, when will the temple will be destroyed?

  2. Verses 22-28 therefore resumes the description of the interim period we read about in vv. 4-14. Jesus once again highlights the very first thing he mentioned about the interim period, the false christ's, false prophets (vv. 23-26).

•Verse 27 is very important. Jesus is saying that as the lightning flashes across the sky, his coming will be unmistakable. It will be manifest and clear.
•Verse 28 simply means that we know there is a carcass when we see vultures flying around or gathering around something. It is absolutely predictable.
Let us Notice THREE Things from these verses

  1. Notice the fate of those rejecting Christ (vv. 15-21).
  2. Notice the protection of God's people (vv. 22, 24).
  3. Notice the certainty of Christ's return (vv. 27, 28).
