While I would like to say, "Never before has a court case like this been seen" unfortunately, I have to say, "Court cases like this happen all the time!
Faithful is surrounded by accusers who hate him and are trying to destroy him. His opponents are Envy, Superstition and Gossip.
These three do everything in their power to build such a case against Faithful that there is no way he can escape. As it is in our day, they do whatever it takes to incriminate him, regardless of whether it is ethical or not. Their ethics must simply alter to suit their criminal intentions.
Even the magistrate himself is completely warped and fails to judge according to what is right and wrong; rather, he judges according to his own evil bias and opinion.
Strangely enough, the very things they are falsely accusing Faithful of doing, are the things they themselves are doing in order to convict Faithful. Yet, in Faithful's case it is punishable, while in their case, it is honourable.
