Warnings from a watchman
28
In strategic locations, watchmen were positioned along the city walls where they could see far off into the distance. It was their sacred duty, that if any measure of danger approached the city, he was to blow his trumpet. If some great storm was approaching, or as commonly happened, a vast army was approaching to besiege them; then he was to sound forth his trumpet loud and clear to warn the people.
This was a crucial responsibility, and one not to be taken lightly. The people within the city could only rest easy; if they had assurance that the men stationed along the wall would see to their duty.
Listen to the words of the watchman, as he warns of impending doom for all those who are not safe in Christ.
