Taking Off the Death Shroud

47

Sermon Title: Taking Off the Death Shroud
Thesis: As Christian's, what kind of life are we called to live? Does it matter how we live and what we do?

The real crux of the passage is dealing with how we think about man.

  • Man is totally depraved and every part of man is fallen and estranged from God.
  • We all get twisted in our thinking, just as our text says, "you did not learn Christ in this way"
  • Because you are different, think different: Because you are different, act different.
  1. Verse 17 They live Vainly.
    a. The unregenerate people live in the futility of their mind.
    b. The whole outlook of a person changes when they come to know Christ.
    c. Without Christ we do not know what love really is.
  2. Verse 18. This darkening occurred at the fall of man.
    a. The battle is in our minds. We need to understand the things of truth of God and our sin and need for Christ.
    b. "the god of this work has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."
    c. Crazy twisted thinking will end up in a crazy twisted end. This applies to
    Christians also.
  3. Verse 18 Says the Unbeliever lives ignorantly to Truth
    a. They simple do not understand the truth
    b. Sin has a petrifying effect. The heart will be hardened and paralyzed to the point they are totally and utterly insensitive to anything.
    c. If you do not know Christ turn to Him or you will pay the price forever in the lake of fire.
  4. Verse 19 says the Unbelievers Act Insensitively to Righteousness
    a. Are you practicing these things? Is your life embracing vain thinking and
    worthless pursuits of this world?
