Growing Old Gracefully and Usefully Part 2

218 ( 137 | 81 )

The idea that some people have about growing old is that it's something not to be desired but the Bible has a different opinion about that and God's word is true. In Proverbs 16:31, the Bible says, "The gray head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness." Then in Proverbs 20:29, the Bible says, "The glory of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is their gray hair." It's not just the gray hair, but it's what that gray hair represents. Proverbs 4:18 says that life is like the beginning of the dawn and it grows brighter and brighter until the perfect day. So what that Psalm is saying is that life gets better as you grow older, not worse. In Proverbs 2 says the righteous man, someone who is righteous we know in Jesus Christ, clothed in the righteousness of Christ, forgiven of his sin, he flourishes like the palm tree. He grows like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God and they will still yield fruit in old age. They shall be full of sap and very green. As we grow older, we can grow more godly, more useful even to the Lord than we did previously.
