Sign on the Dotted Line, Nehemiah 10
Introduction:Vow Making(9:38-10:1,28-29)
Are vows of any use today? First, it helps us to focus.
Second, it helps us to express our love.
Third, God is a covenant keeping God.
What were their vows?
Principle – What is physical in the Old Testament is spiritual in the New Testament.
Strong marriages (10:28, 30)
Wrong relationships can nullify a believer's distinctive witness.
Wrong relationships can be disastrous.
2 Corinthians 6:14-”Do not be yoked together with unbelievers…”
Seventh Day Rest (10:31)It was set aside to honor God.
It was a day of rest.
It was a day to declare truth.
There was also a seventh year rest.
Support for God's Work (10:32-39)It was responsible giving.
It was obedient giving.
It was systematic giving.
It was proportionate giving.
It was sacrificial giving.
It was comprehensive giving.
It was prescribed giving.
Application: When we sign on the dotted line,
1)We will not be vague about our commitments.
2)We can discipline ourselves to attempt great things for God.
3)We acknowledge Jesus as Lord of our relationships, our time and our possessions.
