Solomon's Epitaph: Wisdom's Undoing
Series Life of Solomon
343
Strikingly, the account of Solomon's life in 2 Chronicles does not mention his idolatry at all. Yet, the aftermath in that same book indicates the disasters that befell Solomon's kingdom as a result of his idolatry. While the indication is clear that Solomon was restored to the Lord before his death, it is just as clear that by the folly of his old age, he undid, to a large extent, the testimony he had established in his youth. His latter years and death are a reminder that old age is not a shield against the folly of sin. Solomon's epitaph, in this final message of the series on his life, serves as an exhortation to persevering vigilance on the battlefield of the soul.
