Sermon Outline:

Introduction

• Review – the Importance and Meaning of the Incarnation of Christ

The Necessity of the Incarnation of Christ – Three Issues/Questions:

A. What was it that Made the Incarnation Necessary – The Natural Sinfulness of Man (Job 9:2; Romans 3:9-19; Matthew 1:20-21; Luke 1:67-75; John 1:29; Mark 10:45; Galatians 4:4-5; Hebrews 2:17; 1 John 1:1-3) – The Purpose of three-fold Office as Mediator: As Prophet (Matthew 9:13); As Priest (1 Timothy 1:5-6); As King (2 Timothy 4:17-18) – God’s Justice (Exodus 20:5; Romans 8:3-4; Romans 3:9-18; Hebrews 10:4

B. Was there Some Other Way than the Incarnation of Christ that God could have Employed for the Salvation of His People? (Hebrews 10:18; Turretin)

C. Was it Necessary for Our Mediator to be True God and True Man? (Ezekiel 18:4; Heidelberg Catechism #17; Isaiah 64:6; Psalm 49:6-8; Hebrews 2:9-11, 17)

Conclusion and Application

• The Greatness of God’s Love, Grace and Mercy is measured by the fact that He Sent His Only Begotten Son, The Lord of Glory, humbling Himself to take upon Him the true nature of man, while remaining true God to Ransom Himself for His People enduring for Them the Eternal Torment and death of the cross, which we Rightly Deserve to Suffer Ourselves
• Therefore, Do not be timid, or intimidated concerning the Incarnation of Christ – without It there would be NO Christmas, NO real joy, NO peace with God, much less peace among men – NO Good News, NO Good Will toward Men
• Beloved, Let us Spread that Joy, Peace and Good Will to Others as We Proclaim the Good News Jesus Christ
