Mary's Testimony

148

Mary's question to the angel was not indicative of any skepticism on her part. Quite the contrary, according to the testimony of Elisabeth, Mary believed what the angel had told her. Her problem was in considering her own situation. She did not know any man in the way that would produce a child. So, she sought instruction. How would this promise come to pass? Mary displays throughout this chapter a careful understanding of the revelation of God in the Old Testament. It was true that she lived in humble circumstances, but she was descended from the house of David and knew the content of the promises of the coming of Messiah. Her testimony was of one who would submit herself to the calling of God and would trust to His power for the fulfillment of His promise.
