Jesus, The Righteous Branch

Jeremiah rebukes the unfaithul Shepherds of Judah, meaning those who were given the responsibility of teaching and leading the people of God. Jeremiah calls Gods people sheep that are scattered until the LORD should raise the Righteous Branch called the Lord our righteousness. This we know to be Jesus who would come in the fullness of time the Messiah, and anointed Saviour. This would amount to a prophetic time line that would take Israel into the future many years beyond their promised return from captivity. The near and far fulfillment of this prophecy would untimately come about through the "Lord our righteousness" when Jesus should be revealed at the first advent and then later fulfilled at the second advent when Christ returns and the Kindgom Age would come in and Christ will reign.
