God's Grace in Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21-35

Our natural tendency is not to forgive.

Today's text is about Grace and how God forgives, which is our foundation to forgive others.

True forgiveness is only possible once we get a real and accurate picture of who God is.

Without Christ there is no forgiveness.

2 Corinthians 2:21 "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him"

That’s why we must forgive.

Matthew 18:21-35 "Lord, how often shall my bother sin against me and I forgive him?..."

What is the basis of Christian Forgiveness? Why should we be forgiving people? Two reasons.

  1. Jesus Commands us to Forgive v. 21-22

a. How many times should we forgive?

b. Does forgiveness have a limit?

  1. Have you heard, "I will never forgive that person for.."?

C. Consider Jesus example

  1. They nailed him naked and bloody to a cross.

  2. God is the Example of Forgiveness v. 23-27

a. All who love Christ are in the Kingdom of Heaven.

b. The man in v. 25 does not cry out for justice.

c. v. 26 Slave fell to the ground and prostrated himself before the king asking for patience and saying he will repay.

d. The king had mercy on him felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt.

1. Remember the God of your salvation. His Marvelous Grace, Infinite Grace.

2. This is the Gospel. A broken person comes to God seeking mercy and God offers it through Christ.

3. We forgive because God is the great forgiver.

Make sure you know that grace. If you have experienced that grace then may it guide you through the Christian Life.
