Assurance of Salvation

I. Assurance because we have received the Holy Spirit (4:13).
a. We can “know.”
b. We have the Spirit.
c. We abide in Him and He in us.

II. Assurance because of apostolic testimony (4:14).
a. John is saying that we can have assurance because they personally saw Jesus, and testify to His deity.
b. Jesus is “The Savior of the world”.

III. Assurance because we have personally acknowledged Jesus as God's Son (4:15).
a. This is a doctrinal confession.
b. What John is NOT saying…

IV. Assurance because of God's love for us (4:16-18).
a. “We have come to know and believe the love that God has for us.”
b. “We can have confidence before God”
c. What about when we doubt God's love?

V. Assurance because we love our brothers (4:17-21).
a. “Love is perfected in us”
b. One of the ways we can see God's love is through the Church.
